Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA)
What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)?
ABA is an evidenced based treatment approach that utilizes the principles of behavior to teach new skills and address challenging behaviors that are important to your child and family. ABA therapy applies our understanding of how behavior works to real situations that occur in an individual’s environment.
What To Expect From An ABA Program with Palmetto Behavioral Services:
- A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) designs and directly oversees the program and plan.
- Therapy is conducted in a 1:1 setting with one therapist working with one individual.
- Every program is personalized and developed based on comprehensive assessment results and the desires and needs of the child and family.
- Treatment instruction and goals focus on a broad range of skills, such as: sociability, communication, play, self-care, leisure, academic skills, and motor development.
- A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) will be part of an individual’s treatment team and will conduct therapy appointments based on the needs developed in the treatment plan.
- Data will be taken and documented accordingly during each therapy session.
- Ongoing objective measurement of an individual’s progress is conducted.
- Data-based decisions are made concerning changes to the treatment plan and programs.
- At a minimum there will be monthly parent meetings to review and modify strategies in order to ensure all team members are implementing strategies consistently.
- Reassessment and plan updates will occur every six (6) months.
The BCBA/BCaBA will maintain communication with other service providers (i.e., schools, pediatricians, speech therapists) as needed to ensure collaboration and consistency.
